Unlocking Open Government Data for Your Research Online
If you’ve ever checked an online weather forecast, used your phone’s GPS to find an all-night drugstore, or calculated how much your city paid for road repairs, you’ve used Open government data. Finding and acccessing government data can be tricky, but not impossible!
In this workshop, we will:
- Gain an understanding about the many types of open government data and how it is collected (and who collects it);
- Explore the context of domain and agency-specific repositories, and differences between federal and local data;
- Discover how to access open government data online and through the CMU Libraries’ resources;
- Examine methods for comparing historical government data;
- and learn ways to utilize open government data in your research.
