Workshop: Introduction to QGIS

Workshop: Introduction to QGIS

This 1.5-hour workshop, "Introduction to QGIS," offers a practical introduction to using QGIS for mapping and basic spatial analysis. Designed to foster a foundational understanding of GIS, the workshop focuses on developing essential skills in data visualization and spatial thinking. Participants will learn how to load, view, and query spatial datasets, create and edit spatial data, and produce basic maps.

Emphasizing the importance of spatial reasoning, this session will guide participants in interpreting spatial relationships and patterns within their data. By the end of the workshop, attendees will be equipped with the tools and mindset to apply QGIS in analyzing and solving spatial problems, setting the stage for further exploration in the field of GIS.

This workshop is designed for beginners. You can download the QGIS software on the QGIS.org website. We recommend installing the Long Term Version.

Please bring a laptop and have the software installed prior to the workshop. If you are having trouble installing, you can make a Virtual or In-Person appointment and we can help you. Note: We won’t be able to help you install it at the workshop so please plan ahead.
