Living History: Tracing CMU Culture Through Student Organizations

Student organizations are a vital part of the culture of Carnegie Mellon, and the University Archives preserves their living histories within the decades of records and materials contained in its collections. Diving into these materials can help us better understand CMU overall, and learn how student life has shaped it into the institution that it is today.

Join the Libraries Student Advisory Council as they showcase their work as Archives Ambassadors during this drop-in event. Weave through displays that trace the history of well-known CMU landmarks like the Fence, and learn about the beginnings of the nation’s first co-ed student theatre group and Andy Warhol’s time in the modern dance club. Listen to the voices of past decades of WRCT members, see videos of previous generations of Buggy racers, and reflect on what makes these groups such an enduring, impactful presence on campus.

Food will be provided, and members of today’s student organizations will have a special chance to contribute to their group’s archival records
