Oral History 101
Do you want to learn about oral history? Are you thinking about an oral history project but do not know where to start? Do you want to learn what this interdisciplinary research method has to offer? Join archivist Kate Barbera for Oral History 101. In this hands-on, 2-hour workshop, participants will learn basic techniques and methods for completing an oral history project, and gain an understanding of the ethical and legal concerns of oral history research. We will review the three fundamental steps of oral history—prepare, interview, process—and explore topics such as project planning, interview techniques, and recording equipment. During the workshop, participants will perform one-on-one mock interviews and then reflect on the experience.
