Software Carpentry 2-day workshop - Intro to Shell, Git, and Python

Software Carpentry 2-day workshop - Intro to Shell, Git, and Python

This event is an example-driven two-day workshop on Shell, Git, and Python. Short tutorials alternate with hands-on practical exercises, and participants are encouraged both to help one another, and to try applying what they have learned to their own research problems during and between sessions. The workshop is designed for beginners and does not require any previous programming knowledge. Participants should bring their own laptop to work on. This should be a "real" laptop - not a Chromebook, tablet, etc. You should also be sure to have admin privileges on this computer. See http://software-carpentry.org for more information about the organization.

This event runs from October 9-10th, from 9:00AM - 5:00PM (Oct 9) AND 9:00AM - 4:00PM (Oct 10) each day. The workshop will be held at Mellon Institute - in Mellon 411 on Oct 9 and in Mellon 348 on Oct 10. Mellon Institute is a secure building so you must enter at the Bellefield Street entrance and register with the guard next as an event attendee - you will receive an event guest badge that you must display while you are in the building.

Coffee and lunch will be provided.

Seating is limited so please only register if you can commit to attending the full workshop and to let us know if your plans change.
