This past fall, a unique collaboration among the History Department, the University Libraries, and the School of Computer Science led to class 79-390, a research seminar in which CMU undergraduates investigated the history of computing at Carnegie Mellon using materials in the University Archives. The students prepared video, digital, and physical exhibits displaying their findings, including an 18-foot poster to be that is now on display on the walls of the Gates Helix.

Kate Barbera, Jessica Benner, Sue Collins, and Heidi Wiren Bartlett of the University Libraries served as partners for the collaboration, providing instruction and expertise, shaping design of the course, and working with the students at multiple points across the semester.

Location: View a short video loop above the Café on the ground floor, or view the wall panel, installed on the Helix between the fourth and fifth floors.
