Getting Started with Writing Fanfiction Online
This workshop is a part of our week-long series of events for Love Data Week 2022, a week dedicated to all the unique forms of data around us. Fanfiction is a creative writing endeavor in which people write stories that take place in the universe of an existing television show, movie, celebrity, or other popular culture facet, often taking creative liberties that expand beyond the original bounds of the work. Did you know that when writing fanfiction, you are working with data? Oftentimes, our fanfiction is based on several elements (plot, characters, themes, etc.) of a piece of media, and requires us to pull out and understand these elements in order to craft them into an engaging piece of fanfiction. In this workshop, we will discuss how to get started with writing fanfiction, and provide workshop participants with an opportunity to begin designing their own fanfiction around a certain work in popular culture. No prior experience with fanfiction or creative writing is necessary for this workshop!
