SUMMARY:dSHARP Talk: Samantha Porter - Digital Humanities at the Minneapolis Institute of Art
DESCRIPTION:Despite a reputation for being traditional institutions\,
museums are increasingly looking to technology to attract visitors and
offer new ways for patrons to engage with the works on display. In
designing these types of installations\, it can be difficult to balance
implementation of technology in a way that complements\, but does not
overshadow\, the experience. In this talk\, Samantha Porter will discuss
the case study of 'Riddle Mia This\,' a smartphone app launched in
September 2018 that takes users on an escape room style adventure through
the Minneapolis Institute of Art. She will describe some challenges her
team faced in creating the app\, how they overcame them\, and lessons
learned along the way.\n\nAbout the Speaker\n\nSamantha Porter is a Digital
Preservation Specialist with Liberal Arts Technologies and Innovation
Services (LATIS) at the University of Minnesota. Her work applies
technologies such as 3D scanning\, 3D printing\, and virtual and augmented
reality to teaching\, research\, and outreach projects across disciplines\,
with particular expertise in the fields of archaeology\, biological
 anthropology\, and cultural heritage.
